How To Beat Monday Blues
Ok, let’s get one thing straight – no one likes Mondays and almost all of us feel that sense of dread that hits us every Sunday evening. But the truth this, it doesn’t have to be that way. We’ve put together five, easy practical ways on how to beat Monday blues right in the face!
Prepare in Advance
Go in to Monday like you would go in to battle! For a lot of us, the problem with Mondays is that we feel bogged down by the number of tasks that hit us as the week begins. If you anticipate them, however, tackling them becomes a lot easier. Spend Sunday night jotting down all the tasks that you have to complete on Monday morning. You can even put down a mini game-plan of the order in which you’ll tackle them, the priority levels of each task, etc. You’ll be amazed at how much less stressed you feel on Monday morning simply by knowing what’s in store for the day!
When you get down to business on Monday, start afresh. Looking over notes, post-its and even open browser tabs from the previous week can be distracting and stressful. Treat every Monday as a chance to start afresh. Get rid of old post-its, clear your desk out and close all opened tabs. It’s a brand new week and another chance to do things the way you want to.
Get Enough Sleep
The moment you clock enough sleep, you’ve pretty much conquered the day to come. Sleep relaxes your mind and helps you approach tasks in a more efficient and calm manner. Sleeping well on Sunday, instead of scrambling to catch up on whatever you’ve missed, can make a huge difference in the way you take Monday on. Try to set a sleep ritual for Sundays where you take the time to relax and get ready for bed. Put a face mask on, read your favourite book or magazine and get into bed no later than 10 PM.
Change The Way You Think About Mondays
Mondays are blue only if you think they are. Pop culture teaches us to hate Mondays and look forward to the weekend, but what if you started looking forward to Mondays the same way you look forward to weekends? Identify things you’re excited about for the week to come. It could be a new episode of your favourite TV show, it could be a package that’s arriving in the mail, it could be the launch of something exciting you’re working on. When you’re excited about the week ahead, Monday will be fun!
Why Does Monday Make You Blue?
Finally, take the time to think about why Mondays get you down. Is it because there’s something at work that’s bothering you? Or is it because of a person at work? Are you stuck in a creative rut? It is not uncommon to feel existential, but it’s certainly important to figure out why. Once you do, you can get down to tackling the problem. Being your own boss can be stressful because of the amount of decision making that your every day involves, but hey – you are your own boss! You should be looking forward to living your best life, but if Monday is dampening your spirits, spend the time to understand why, because if you don’t snip at the root of the problem, it’ll never stop recurring.
